December 2002 Job Site Visit Day
Students from the five high schools in Cabarrus County were recently given the opportunity to explore, firsthand, careers in the construction industry.
Students who participated in the Job Site Visit Day traveled to six construction sites to interact with workers in the field and observe them in action. At each site, participants learned about the companies represented, as well as career opportunities and the future outlook for the industry. Students were introduced to careers in general construction, specialty and subcontracting, and the electrical, mechanical, plumbing and supplier fields.
One of the sites toured was Southeastern Packaging Company in Harrisburg where participants watched employees of Wayne Brothers, Inc. pour 700-cyds of concrete in a floor slab. The students learned about the equipment used in the process, such as the laser screed, and the skills required to operate this type of machinery.
The Job Site Visit Day was organized by the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce Building Industry and Ground Maintenance Career Council, chaired by Keith Wayne of Wayne Brothers, Inc.
