ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY

WBI has joined the Adopt-A-Highway program. For those not familiar with this service program, the participating group pledges to pick-up trash along a designated roadway. In our case, it will be a 1.7 mile stretch surrounding Concrescere.

Our goal is to promote a beautiful and litter-free community. Litter pick up will be scheduled four times a year. 40 volunteers will be selected so that each will only serve one time for approximately two hours. Volunteers are provided safety training, safety vests, orange litterbags, blue recycling bags and gloves.

As Concrescere will bring together our surrounding communities, we want to give back with a clean and beautiful roadside.

 NORTHEAST FOUNDATION’S BREAST HEALTH CAMPAIGN

We are very proud to support the NorthEast Foundation’s Breast Health Campaign. A donation of $10,000 was made on March 27th to further their goal of raising $5.5 million over the next three years. The funds raised will be used to develop a new Breast Health Center and purchase a mobile mammography van as well as digital mammography equipment for both the center and van. Campaign gifts will also support various breast health community outreach programs.

In January 2008 NorthEast Foudation launched a new three-year community campaign to support the Carolinas Medical center – Northeast Breast Health Program.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women 40-55 and yet only 36% of women in Cabarrus County received a screening mammogram in 2007! Since 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer by the age of 85, early detection is critical for successful treatment. Encourage the women in your life to have a yearly mammogram.
